The most detailed guide in print that covers
the Central and Southern Bahamas, On and Off the Beaten Path,The Central and
Southern Bahamas Guide, by Stephen J. Pavlidis goes into far greater detail
than any other guide that has ever attempted to give coverage to the Central and Southern
Bahamas. Using a recently developed, computerized hydrographic system, Steve has visited
and sounded all of the popular cruising grounds throughout the region and identified
several anchorages not shown in any other publication. Similar in its coverage to Steve's
recently published book The Exuma Guide, A Cruising Guide to the Exuma Cays: Second
Edition, Steve's new book offers computer enhanced charts with shaded land areas and
latitude/longitude lines. The volume is loaded with detailed information,
photographs, and local knowledge of the Southern and Central Bahamas.
The book has two sections. "On the Beaten Path" covers
The Biminis, Andros, The Berry Islands, New Providence, Eleuthera, Little San Salvador,
Cat Island, Long Island, Conception Island, Rum Cay, and San Salvador. "Off the
Beaten Path"covers The Jumentos, The Crooked/Acklins District, Samana, The Plana
Cays, Mayaguana, Inagua, and Hogsty Reef.
Steve's cruising guides are designed to enhance the cruising
experience by going into far greater detail than any previously published charts. While a
prudent skipper should still carry government charts for the region, On and Off the
Beaten Path, The Central and Southern Bahamas Guide, provides much local knowledge
and greater detail on how to safely transit these waters. With this guide most cruisers
can safely and confidently find their way into anchorages and through passes, that
previously appeared somewhat daunting.
On and Off the Beaten Path, The Central and Southern
Bahamas Guide, as in Steve's other books, also contains lists of services and
information, over 200 GPS waypoints, marine facilities, customs regulations, navigational
aids, ham and weather radio broadcasts and stations, anchoring tips, tides and currents,
as well as phone numbers, reference reading, and holidays.
The books consists of 320 pages, with 132
charts, a chart index, photographs, full-color cover, table of contents, text index, and
